PHONE CALL

Me: Hello

Mother-in-law: Iyawo mi, omo mi….hope you are not too busy now. Please, I want to talk to you about something
Me: Mummy, I can spare a minute …..
Mother-in-law: Please, there’s this woman, Mama Pamilerin, she waited for 22yrs before God gave her Pamilerin. She’s a prophetess, we pray together and she said she doesn’t mind praying with you once in a while . She’s here with me now, hold on, let her pray for you
Me:  ehm…ehm… yes ma
The next voice I hear is that of Mama Pamilerin. She prays in Yoruba and I respond with the required “Amen”. After the prayer, she goes on to recount her story, how she waited for 22 years before God answered her..bla..bla..bla. All this conversation takes about 20mins of my time. She hands over the phone to my mother-in-law.
Mother-in-law: Iyawo mi, shey you won’t mind using holy water. Shebi you remember I said I and Mama Pamilerin pray together, she will pray on water for you, I will bring it for you or you can send someone to come and collect it. There’s nothing to it oh…the water is holy water, we pray on it and all you need to do is drink it or take your bath with it..God will answer our prayer, he has answered it. I will carry my grandchildren in Jesus name…… at this point I am rolling my eyes….……. the prayer reels on
Let me digress to give a small brief on my mother-in-law……….My mother-in-law is a good, loving and decent woman, sometimes I feel I over-react sef….. my hubby has been able to get her to “mind her business” as per our child bearing issues. She doesn’t ask any questions.
However, time and time again I have to endure this type of phone conversations. She has gone to every mountain, visited every pastor she knows to join her in praying for the “fruit of the womb” for her son.  It is for this reason I don’t visit my in-laws, as the visit never ends without a praying visit from a pastor, prophet or prophetess with holy water, anointing oil or a prescription of one form of prayer and fasting.  Therefore, for my own piece of mind, I use wisdom to decline any visit to their house. Earlier this month, my hubby asked that we visit them, if you see how I take say “no-thank you”, ehn, even me I felt bad.
Back to the phone call……..
Me: Mummy, thank you ma…ehm…..my oga is calling me…I’ll call you later
Mother-in-law: Wait, wait, I will send Mama Pamilerin’s number to your phone. Please be calling her oh, so she can pray with you. I am sure God will answer our prayers. I will smile; I will carry my son’s children…..she starts again....
Me: Mummy, Amen
Mother-in-law: I will also give Mama Pamilerin your number; she will be calling you to pray with you
Me: Ah….mummy, ehm…ehm…
Mother-in-law: God answers her prayers oh, infact, her ministry is praying for those waiting for the “fruit of the womb”, don’t worry…..….
Me: Thank you ma, but I really have to call you back. Take care.
Phone call ends….. I sigh…..phew…God.  My phone beeps and its a text message…lo and behold….it reads”this is mummy, Mama Pamilerin’s number is 080xxxxxxxx”.
Fast forward to four weeks later, my phone rings
Me: Hello
Voice: It’s me Mama Pamilerin……… you haven’t called me since the last time we spoke

  2. thanks. It's her own way of showing she cares

  3. That is the truth, she is just showing that she cares. I am also wary of so-called prophets and prophetesses or pastors and prayer warriors. We do have to accept that those around us may feel differently and they really mean well..

    1. I know she means well. She's got a good heart.
I believe God answers my prayers too.I am just bidding my time to find a way to tell her politely that they don't need to talk to me for God to answer their prayer.

*hugs*, i love it when you leave me a comment

  4. I will be lying if i say i don't know or understand what you are going through and what your MIL is trying to do...like you said she has a good heart and like every MIL they want to see their grandchildren and it is always the WOMAN that is pressurized. Am happy your hubby has your back and they know their limit. I am happy you did not listen to any of this so-called prophetess or prophet or pastors sef! Every body is finding how to 'chop' someone, esp when they know they have the money.
In abroad such does not happen because there is artificial insemination or surrogate mother to do the job....it is just that it costs money which many don't have hence for prey to his nonchalants!
Thank GOD for your faith in HIM, please keep the fire burning, and by HIS mercy and grace, you will carry your own child in JESUS NAME..amen.

    1. thanks dear. Though i didn't find the phone call funny at the time.... maybe due to the frequency now..... I find it rather funny that challenges make people run to supposed "men of God".

My hubby says "things can only get better" a lot too.

      *hugs*

  6. Aaawww, I think she really does mean well like you've stated. Sounds just like my mum! I believe almost every Nigerian mother would be like that actually if their child were going thru any situation.

I can understand how awkward it would be if you have to call that lady or even when she called you. My mum once gave me a pastors' number to call him; but I told her that I didn't feel comforatble doing that and that if anyone wanted to remember me in their prayers then that was good enough. All this holy water and having to be calling everytime business just doesn't sound necessary. Please don't drink the water or use it to bathe oh! she means well but it is thanks but no thanks.

I actually found this post hilarious and wanted to start off my with an LOl, but I personally know so much how it is actually not a laughing matter and can be a very annoying issue.

We'll look back soon and laugh over such incidents in Jesus name.

    1. Dearie, abeg lol oh...its funny nau. How can I in the year 2012 allow myself to be cajoled with holy water. Even the bible admonishes us to try every spirit. I am not desperate.

I tread with caution when it coms to spiritual matters.

  8. Let me counsel you from the lil i know about this.
She means the best. Love her and be polite and all but you don't have to do what she says.
    Wait in God
My sis waited a while but delivered without any of those things.
I have a family friend who went with her mother-in-law to do all sorts.
There are so many wolves out there, don't be exposed to them in your search for something God gives free.
I like your twitter account by the way, stay strong, prayerful and committed to God.
Put God first and you won't go to any of those places, the word can do it for you.

  12. lol!

Mother-in-laws! They are such an amusing factor in every marriage. My Mum to wifey inclusive!

My prayer is that God will put a smile on you and hubby's face soon. He said neither us nor our cattle shall ever be barren - you will conceive in Jesus name!

    1. Amen to your prayer. I think most women will run from pillar to post to try help their children, that understanding makes me endure her several prayer sessions. Hubby and I laugh over some of the sessions sef.

  14. Hi Sykik, it can't be easy going through this; I have heard funny in law stories with regards to delays in childbirth. A dear friend's FIL called her an elephant without tusks because she failed to conceived after 2 years of marriage. She got pregnant in the 3rd year and had twin boys. By the time the twins were 2, abi 3, FIL was on the war path again for more babies and my friend/hubby were just struggling to keep afloat. Ironically, MIL never bothered her at all. Sister, God makes everything beautiful in its time-you will have your babies when the time comes, and no man will take the glory for that miracle. I am not down with seeking after prophets and seers bc at the end all one ends up with, are strange spirits that introduce other dimensions of problems into one's life. It is true that some mean well, but many do not. They harbor too much resentments against the DIL. But if one is blessed with in laws that mean well, then one should really bless God every day that they do not have to fight unnecessary battles of supremacy/control. My foundation in faith has been on the word of God, which is a more sure word of prophecy, and His word is more than enough for every situation. We shall celebrate your good news soon. Cheers.

    1. Yay...... I am so humbled you left me these words of encouragement. I never knew FILs are also involved in this oh.

I refuse to allow anyone coerce me into anything I am not comfortable with. God never fails and is still in the business of miracles so why should i fret.

      *hugs*

  15. Babes, I like your MuM INLAW... aww she sounded so sweet.. bless her.. trying to reach through Mama Pamilerin(laughs)... aww it like a nollywood script..

Babes dont mind me, by now you do know my thought process is different from everybody else's sometimes. lol.

Well I dont think you and hubby have child bearing issues. Because to me child bearing is nobody's issue (except in exception cases in which am not aware of). Stuff happens. But I will say you two are expectant mummys and daddys as you both are waiting and trusting yet LIVING i.e. not consumed. soon enough babies will come and razzle your NEST. (Chuckles).

God will strengthen you both to keep trusting..

  16. That must be so frustrating. She cares and is probably only thinking of herself at the moment and her need.. her need for a grandchild.. but there are other people involved as well.. which are you and your husband. she should try to be sensitive. pele.. just keep doing you and talking to God like you always do.
